What Happens When I Walk Outside - Tom Ford and Charlotte Tilbury, a little CHANEL

I rang up Berfgorf Goodman earlier in the week to reserve the Tom Ford cream eye shadow in Platinum.  This is a repromote from a few seasons back and now offered as a Holiday limited edition item.  If you have many regrets about missing out last time, it would be a good idea to pick one up quickly.
The folks at the counter confirm this is not exactly identical to the original one.  I ended up getting rid of my old pot because it was slightly too cool toned for my skin and this one appears to be slightly warmer (and I think better suited for my skin).  They still have these in stock at this moment, so you can give them a ring (Natalie or Clif can help you 212-872-2813).  By the way, Clif was recently featured in a New York Times article regarding beauty counters offering more and more personalized services offered by brands.  I am unaffiliated with them of course, except for the fact that I spent a lot of money there!

More Tom Ford here, folks.  Clif steered me over to the new matte lipsticks and I thought you might want a good peek at the limited edition shade: First Time (L) and Black Dahlia (R).

  • First time is a white based, opaque and light pink (with coral tones).
  • Black Dahlia!  Ah!  Too bad Tom Ford lipsticks freak my lips the heck out.  Reminds me a good bit of the now discontinued Black Orchid.  Black Dahlia appears more red and berry, while I recall Black Orchid being more blackended and purple in comparison.
Helen from lolassecretbeautyblog swatched all the shades, so do check it out! Here.

I now pit the Tom Ford against the Charlotte Tilbury!  (Cage FIGHT TO THE DEATH).
I mentioned in an earlier post that I was keen on purchasing two of the blushes, First Love and Sex on Fire (swatched them all here).  I was thinking that Tom Ford Ravish (original post here), which is one of my all time most versatile blushes reminded  me of Sex on Fire.  So I put them next to each other.
Tom Ford Ravish is on the left, Charlotte Tilbury Sex on Fire on the right.  Pretty close, even though Sex on Fire is pinker and duskier.  I bet lightly applied on the face I wouldn't see that much of a difference.  Right?  Right?

My wee Chanel haul, even though I never do well with Chanel nail polish.  This is the Fashion Night Out polish Sweet Star.  She's a beauty.

Annnnnnnnd, I very lightly blotted on some Tom Ford matte Black Dahlia which less than an hour into wear is already making me feel dry.  :(  So sad.  Do you notice a stronger brow?  Lovely Natalie in at the Tom Ford counter passed on some strong brow game tips.  Game on, brows!

Happy Friday, everybody!  What new makeup bits have you been looking at?

    1. FEBROOARY?! Gah! These unsynchronous (is this a word?) beauty releases make me nuts. Although I am glad it's being released there. What I hate worse than delayed releases are regional exclusvies. *rant rant* Black Dahlia is a beautiful shade!

  2. Black dahlia looks beautiful! I'm debating stopping by the bg counter to pick it up after work today, but I didn't have a great experience when I went to pick up items from the spring collection this year. The SA helping me seemed so disappointed that no only bought two products, and then seemed reluctant to try pink dune on me even though I asked to bc they were out of stock in that shade. Have you had really good experiences there consistently? I always want to try out the perfumes but I feel like they'll get mad if I don't buy then and there or ask for a sample.

    1. I almost always go to the same person at the same counter, so my experiences are nearly all positive. And because now they recognize me as a blogger, they are very generous with perfume samples (even though they were always generous to begin with). I find it funny when I buy one item (like Platinum) they ask me if I want only one of that. I don't know if they think I am a weird LE item hoarder or what, but that question makes me go: o___O
They always have small glass empty bottles around and may limit the number of them, but you should definitely ask for samples!!!

  4. Those are some good brows you've got, that last picture is Schiwng!
I called my local counter a few weeks ago asking them to save both Platinum and Spice for me when they arrived, but they have already failed to call me when products arrived before so I am not sure I should trust them with this LE stuff... Maybe a visit to the store will be in order this weekend. The BD lipstick looks right up my alley too, but for the price, I am not sure I want to risk even a slightly drying formula; my lips get destroyed by anything in the winter. I may give the Nars Audacious ones a go though! I've been looking for the perfect replacement for Suqqu Ichijiku (why, Suqqu?! WHY?!) and there's a few contenders for a good brick-y red in this line... we shall see!

    1. I was hoping that my look was so schwing-worthy that it deserved an extra syllable or something! :D

Go in person to the counter and then also hassle for samples of the perfumes? For 50 bucks, you better know the formula is going to be nice on your lips. I just can't do mattes without inflicting some damage on my lips and TF's especially just don't love me back. :( *high pitched whine*

  6. Damn, that Black Dahlia is gorgeous--but I have the same problem as you with TF lipsticks. DRYING. DREADFUL. Sad, since that color is right in my happy zone.

Any chance you'd share the strong brow game tips? Your brows look fantastic in that photo!

    1. SoSuSam, you with the Tom Ford lipsticks, too??? And then add MATTE and then it has disaster written all over it.

For the brows, overall, it was more product... way more than I would normally wear, but not drawn bigger than they are. The other thing Natalie showed me was a very clean straight line on the bottom of the brow extended from the inner corner out. Now, to master the IG brow. XD

    2. Ha! Matte! My lips trembled in fear when I first read about the new Matte TF lipsticks. You were VERY brave to give them a try.

Thanks for the inside scoop on the brows. I like that clean, straight line on the bottom. I'm going to focus on that tomorrow. I work from home, so the only ones who will see my lovely brows will be my cats, but still--I'm gonna give it a try. Thanks!

    3. I work from home once in a while (generally snow days). On those days, I'm wearing flannel pajamas and big bathrobe and fuzzy slippers. I'm really impressed you put on your brows! XD

  7. I am loving your new brows and youthful hair styling.

I didn't have my illustrious Grandmother with me this time, but I did some considerable damage at counters and later online. Picked up Chanel highlighter and the SA at Shiseido properly slayed me. Ended up picking floraculture *gasp* I know, an eyeshadow! And because Nordstrom is having a Mascara event where you buy 2 get 1 free (you can mix brands), I also pre-ordered 3 Guerlain Maxi Lashes :D Then spooky posted link to Hourglass brown palette of poo and I picked that up for my sister's upcoming birthday. And I still have to decide what to haul at Sephora.

    1. :D thanks thanks! I posted this on twitter, but I recently came to the realization that putting in more hot curlers in my hair do not equal more lustrous curls that last. It actually puts my even more firmly in the territory of Korea ahjumma. My big kid even comment that my hairs looks "MUCH BETTER MOM." thanks, kid, thanks.

YOU BUYING EYESHADOW NOW? *gulp* *squeaky sound of world tilting off its axis* The HG palette looks gorgeous, no?

  10. Oh! Love the strong brow on you! And BD looks really good, sad its so drying for your lips. That CT is very very close to the TF, if it's much cheaper, I ain't gonna care about the minuscule difference.
Can't stop oggling all the images of Sweet Star!
Went and checked out the new Chanel extrait gloss thingies, tried on the orange colour that Lisa Eldridge rocked in the promo video, and quite like it, but haven't decided whether to get.

    1. Sweeeeeet Star! It chipped on day 3, which is fine with me, considering Chanel chips in a day usually. And it is so so so so pretty!
Do the extrait glosses apply like a traditional gloss? The colors are so pretty. :)

  11. Thank you for the link love, Belly! Interesting that Platinum is a little different than it was in 2012! I'm definitely picking it up this time, and maybe Spice as well Black Dahlia is gorgeous, but it reminds me a bit of Black Orchid as well, and since I have both Black Orchid and Bruised Plum there really is no need to get this as well-- despite the fact that it is LE. A girl simply doesn't have to buy every pretty thing just because it's LE after all! First Time seems to pull a lot more cool on you than I would have expected! :-)

    1. Your swatches are so helpful! Thank you for the beautiful picture to refer to! :)

Platinum is beautiful. I am liking it more that it is warm this go around. The original version was slightly off (too cool, especially with the metallic finish) on me.

I would totally get Black Dahlia for the sexy name alone, but I really can't wear the Tom Ford lipsticks. :(

    LOVE DEM BROWS.
I also kind of want to see all your magical iridescent polishes swatched together *_* That would be an amazing set of space skittles.
The lip does look quite dry, even in this otherwise lovely pic :/ *slathers miel de reve on you*

    1. My nail polish collection is oddly disproportionate to the number of days I actually wear np! I have a hard time resisting these types of colors though and allow me to flex my usually lazy muscles to track something like this down. You know, I went into a store and talked to a person! :O
      Sad lips. *smooch*

  14. I just came back this afternoon from local Nordie, women swarming TF counter for a certain pot.. could it be Platinum? I didn't bother to check b/c the Tod was tagging w/ me. First Time looks so peeeeenk on that picture! Love the Sweet Star and (to quote Kate above) DEM BROWS!

I'm glad I've never gotten on the TF$ bandwagon. It seems like a more expensive MAC-LE-train-of-doom thing.

    1. Only reason TF$ LE madness is even remotely tolerable is that they don't release a kazillion collections to pursue. And for me, I have a counter nearby so getting to it quickly is generally not a problem. :D

  19. Belly! That is definitely a pair of brow power couple. Are the paparazzi tailing you yet? ;)

Acquiring Sweet Star is more difficult than hailing a taxi during rush hour. Only after a 7th phone call was I connected to an enlightened SA who knew of the polish's seemingly mythical existence. Every other SA just looked at me like I wear tube socks with sandals and politely introduced me to yet another red nail polish from Chanel.

Too bad about Black Dahlia! If your lips agree with Armani's lip maestro formula, I would recommend the Intense Velvet Color in Orient (#406), which is similarly vampy and full of angst at the lack of gluten-free options.

Aside from checking out the new By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Concealer, Lipstick Queen Silver Screen collection, and holiday Suqqu Ex-22, I'll stay low to save monies…for the new Dyson humidifier...coming in fall of 2015. :/

    1. The paps seem to be well undercover. I suspect all the pedestrian on the street are the paps in disguise and they seem to be doing a great job being disguised. Also their camera and long telephoto lens seem to have shrunk so much that they are impossible to spot!

I want the Dyson fan that has no blades! That's my lemming. The new releases and various kits are leaving me in a state of doldrums. :/

  20. LOVE 'em brows! Perfect shape! I need to get my brows done professionally soon. LOL. Mine looks ridiculous! Sorry to hear TF lipsticks and you don't get a long. I just picked up Pussycat from the matte range this weekend and it's pretty!! ^_^ Ravish is next on my TF blush "to buy" list but seeing CT Sex on Fire next to it now I'm not too sure. Hehe. The colors are pretty close but I have a feeling I'll love Sex on Fire better... hmm.. decision! :D

    1. Jaa! Ravish is truly a beautiful and versatile shade. I'm ok with the Tom Ford lipsticks not working for me since there's many other things from the brand that I am very fond of. I've decided to stay strong and bypass the Sex on Fire. :)
