The Neglected Face - Featuring Addiction

Do you find things you've really liked previously figuratively collecting dust somewhere?  I don't shop my stash when buying urge strikes.  I usually just buy stuff.  I'm afraid that's how I am.  I also have the attention span that spans a season or so of consistent use and then --SQUIRREL!

A topic on makeupalley posed a challenge to use neglected palettes.  I have many I'm neglecting because I am a) testing new things b) stuck in a rut or c) burying my head in the sand about how my feels have changed.

Firmly falling into "c" would be Guerlain Les Fumes.  I don't know what it is.  I sure did love it when I first got it.  After committing to the challenge of using it this week, I still didn't pick it up!  There is a feeling of dark foreboding for this one, isn't there?

Falling mainly into "a" would be my gaggle of Addiction Ready to Wear quads.  I posted on the limited edition Basquiat cases here.  I really like these and I'm coming to realize that I like these palettes more than the singles I own and find the quality more consistent in the quads and I like the brainless ease of color coordination.  With the exception of Soda Lunch, the ones in that post are all permanent in plan black cases.

Addiction Tuxedo Moon is a great basic neutral palette.  While not actually flashy, it has a nice selection of light to medium to dark shades in a mostly matte finish that is really easy to use.

So, up for the challenge, here is my Neglected Face.
This is a very simple neutral eye look with red lips, of course.

Products used are:
base - Suqqu Frame Fix Cream N (002), Suqqu Nuancing Loose Powder (Natural), Ellis Faas concealer (102)
eyes - Suqqu Balancing Brow Palette (Moss Green), Addiction Ready to Wear palette (Tuxedo Moon), THREE Flash Performance eye liner (08 Eye On), Suqqu Mascara Volume Long N (EX-03 Black Navy)
cheeks- Rouge Bunny Rouge blush in Delicata
lips - Rouge Bunny Rouge lipstick in Raw Silence

Maybe tomorrow Les Fumes?

What's gathering dust for you these days that were old favorites?

  1. Hey Belly, ahhh what a gorgeous "neglected" face! I find that most stuff in my stash has a "season" related to them. It doesn't even mean I wear spring colors in spring and summer colors in summer. It's just that I associate my memory of getting the pieces with a certain time of the year, and the same time next year would be when I pull them out again. Does this make sense or make me sound insane? LOL

    1. I do this too! One of the reasons I love makeup is that it stores memories so well, and those memories get released every time you use a certain piece. But that also makes it hard to wear certain things at certain times!

    2. Oh yahhhh, Sunny & AuxB! This makes a lot of sense. Definitely there are certain things I reserve for colder weather, but that generally tends to be in the lipstick family (vamps, dark berry, etc). I also own like a bazillion neutral eye stuff that the seasonal thing isn't as applicable for me.
On the associating emotion to makeup thing, I do this every once in a while if the event was particularly traumatic. I had to get rid of a tom ford cream shadow because I recall wearing this for a several days when my dad was in the hospital.

  2. That makes sense sunny!! Also there is some palettes I know love but I just don't gravitate towards them. Maybe they aren't necessarily in fashion?

    1. Hmmm, unless you have a wardrobe of Pantone Color of the Year, do you have many super trendy makeup pieces? :D Radiant Orchid five-ever!

  3. Look at that wing!! I beg you to show me the ways of the siren!!!

I've been documenting FOTDs sporadically since last year, but I've been doing it far more consistently over the last month or so as I've been trying different foundations. But since I try to wear a different palette each time, I'm starting to see which ones are more flattering and which ones aren't, and it's killing me a little because there are definitely a couple of duds (TF$ Cocoa Mirage. SO BROWN! Too BROWN! to be a neutral palette. D:) My Shi Eye Bar is getting no love, and I'm so afraid of being reproached by it that I'm haven't worked up the courage to bring it out.

    1. Bahahah! Lookit, I actually did a straight on shot in a post because the wings were even! That never happens. I think sketching out with powder shadow before committing to it with a different liner seems to help because you can correct it early on. Or something. I dunno. I don't suspect I can replicate this again. Accidental Siren.

I dunno why you have so many FOTDs <--- THAT I DON"T GIT TO SEE?! >:( GRRRR

TF$ CM is matte right? That's a very pretty palette. I can see how that would be really too BROWN to be a neutral. and doood, I totally can identify with makeup giving you reproachful attitude. D: Makeup giving us anxiety... this is becoming problematic.

    2. That's what I do when I want a more dramatic wing, actually! Sketch it out with shadow then trace over it, like a kindergartener, though kindergarteners probably have better tracing skills than I do. :P

I've shoved the Eye Bar at the very back of my eyeshadow drawer. If I don't see it, it can't see me. D:

I don't post many of my FOTDs because I use the front-facing phone camera and the quality isn't great, plus all my daily eye looks are incredibly insipid and same-y. :( I got the TF$ because I'm treating Matsukasa like a real HG and thought TF$ could help me stretch it out (should've gone with the Visee you got!), but TF$ is like, 5x warmer than Matsukasa. Wahhhh.

  4. Love the wings, so delicate. Pretty much everything that isn't in my zpalette is neglected and even then only 3 items in it get any love, most things are unused. I can't wear eyeshadows most of the time, dry and sensitive eyes :(

  5. That is one spectacular look!! I have too many neglected palettes to count... I am ashamed. Right now, my blue themed palettes are collecting dust, since I'm all about the pinks, oranges, purples, or greens atm. Also, my one and only Naked 1 palette hasn't been used since forever, it's such a sort of work horse palette that my attention immediately goes to other furry SQUIRRELZ!!

    1. Re: THREE lippie reply I just read.

I keep thinking I got 01, but I just realized I got 02 too! Great minds yo! The THREE counter is very nice in person. Their skincare has this wonderful rosemary citrus scent, and it just makes dabbing your fingers into all teh pretty things so much better! The counter design is very sleek, very Japanese-cool and minimal, in line with all their packaging. I've fallen in love with their skincare range, especially their cleansing oil, toner and facial oil.
The makeup section is to die for, all the item's I've played with were great quality. Unfortunately, many items are currently out of stock, especially the blushers which was what I wanted to look into next ;(

I've only compared with the Japanese prices, and most skincare is marked up by around 15% give or take the item. TW has a 5% duty, so there's a bitchslap mark up of around 10%. Then again, currency makes a huge difference too, so it could change day-to-day.
The makeup seems to be marked up a bit more, at least for the 4Ds it looked to be more like a 20% markup when I compared.
Don't know how it compares to Ichibankao, I'm affraid I'll break and order a huge Suqqu, Chicca and Afdiction haul if I visit that site.

    2. Any of the big Nakeds would boggle my mind because there are so many shades in one SQUIRREL!

You have a nice assortment of colors, noodlies. I do as well, but tend to just wear the neutrals more so... except the ones I forget about sometimes because SQUIRREL!

02 Velvet Lust is a really really pretty color! I've been trying really hard not to use any of my THREE skincare samples because it would be a pain in the butt to get hooked on those. Stop telling me how nice they smell and feel.... aaaaaaargh.

I wonder why the prices in TW are such a premium compared to the JPY prices. Is that generally the way for Taiwan? I had in my mind that the pricing tends to be more reasonable in Taiwan. Man, that's a bummer for THREE... but I WOULD PAY THAT IF I HAD ACCESS TO A COUNTER... IN PERSON LIKE. For the touching & the oogling.

  6. Sunny above made a good point: I too relate to certain palette by season (e.g. Chanel Spring 2012, etc.) and tend to pull it out again during the Spring. In any case, I'd LOVE to make a concerted effort to re-shop my stash, that's why I started the MOTW so I can give & spread the love to all my makeup items that would otherwise collecting dust. Hmmm.... Belly, do you want to start a movement here?

    1. I've been loving your MOTW selections!! Unless I'm trying out new purchases, I really get into a rut.. like I will wear Suqqu or THREE for a few weeks in a row. Or just RBR washes... while everything else gets ignored. Claire, you already started your movement!!!

  7. ha. when i read tuxedo moon all i can think about was tuxedo mask. sort of excited for the series relaunch. :)
the palette produced a good look. i think everyone needs a few neutral basic shadows like these to building the foundation for the collections. matters in neutrals always get a bit of love from me.

  8. You look so gorgeous, the red lip / neutral eye really suits you :)

I definitely neglect things I actually love as well - part of it is that I just have too.much at this point, especially lipsticks. I'm seriously thinking about paring down, but it's hard to figure out what to do with it - drugstore used makeup is not really worth blogsaleing.

    1. Thank you for your lovely compliment, Emi! D'AWWWWWWW!

I was thinking about leaving a basket in the work restroom with a note for some things. You think people might take it?

  9. This look is totally fab on you, especially in combination with that cute top! :)

I’ve been neglecting my old-school Stila e/s. Just recently I pulled out some Stila e/s to copy a look I saw online and fell in love with them all over again - they last and last and last on me.

I’ve reorganized my whole stash. I’ve bought some Muji drawers to put on my desk/vanity, and now that I have better access to all my stuff, I find that I use more different things more often. I also have this “flintstone challenge” going on with a friend of mine - we dig out stuff we’ve had for many years from our stashes and send each other FOTD pics wearing them. :)

    1. I think some things you fall out of love with because makeup technology makes them a bit obsolete. I think my Les Fumes may fall into here. Maybe. Others (maybe your Stila) got looked over but stays awesome! I've heard the old school Stila were so amazing. I've only had new generation which didn't do much for me.

I love a good organization schema for makeup! I agree, visible and accessible does truly make a difference to get you to use stuff more often.

Your flintstone challenge sounds like a really fun idea! Maybe you need to pull out your 90's brown lipsticks, too? In the spirit of the challenge?

  10. I am always neglecting my older palettes for my new acquisitions but sometimes after reading a post about a palette that I do have, I try to use it. I look at my hoard and feel that sense of guilt mixed with pleasure. I'm messed up. I think you nailed the look, love the red lips.

  11. Ooo what a lovely "neglected face" and that top you're wearing is gorgeous! I too tend to go by season but at the same time some are just basic essentials that can be forgoten when one has too many basic essentials... ykwim? At the moment I don't think I have too many I'm not using since I got rid of a lot of stuff last year. :)
