Featuring Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Diapason & Snow

Polar Votex descends again, this time with a foot of snow.  It literally hurt to walk to the office.  But I tried to stay as warm as humanly possible wearing what one must do to survive: long thermal underwear.  While not sexy, one can have a warm tushie, which is practically better than sex.  Wouldn't you agree?
video
I really don't like how it turns from beautiful pristine snow like my short video above into this:

Once the bone chilling temperature warms up the snow melts into deep, dirty & digusting pools by the sidewalk curbs.  They disguise themselves with with black water, pretending to be solid ground.  You step into it only to have your solid faith rewarded with icy slosh into your shoes/boots/survival gear/whatever.  (Possible I will whine like this for the rest of the winter.)

Makeup-wise, I am totally surprised with how much I am loving one of the new Chanel Illusion D'Ombres, Diapason.  I am not a big Illusion D'Ombre fan, having owned one before and getting rid of it.  There are some gloriously beautiful swatches & reviews around now of Diapason, so I won't do those.  (Drivel <--- I need to stop reading this blog which makes me want to BUY ALL TEH THINGS, Belletristic BeautyRushing Glam and Silverkis )  But here is a recent look.

Products used (quite liberally, might I add.  Looks soft in the pictures & clown-like in real life!):
  • Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation (Chamomile + Porcelain), Ellis Faas Concealer under eyes, Suqqu Nuancing Loose Powder in Natural, Guerlain Meteorites Perles du Dragon.
  • Suqqu Nuancing Brow Palette in Moss Green, Lancome Hypnose Drama WP mascara, Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Diapason, Physicians Formula 2-1 Booster liner in Ultra Black, Shiseido Shimmering Eye Shadow in Caviar.
  • Rouge Bunny Rouge blush in Delicata
  • Lunasol Full Glamour Liquid Lips in Soft Rose Beige
Regading the eyes, I've actually layered the Diapason over Shiseido cream shadow in Caviar.  The Caviar was applied close to the upper and lower lashline and the Diapason was layered over it, above it and blended out with a fluffy fluff.  Though I find Diapason beautifully complex and pigmented alone, I like the extra dimensionality that Caviar gives.

Yum yum, the shifting Diapason is very shifty:
Shall we burrow together into the blankets and share some tea?  Or some sparkles?  (someone save me from the cold!)

  1. It's so pretty! This is the first Id'O I've been tempted by, though I'm not convinced quite yet. BTW, my Visee lipsticks arrived yesterday, YAY! The pigmentation is so great, and I like the formula so far. Will probably post about them eventually.

    1. Yay new Visees! How is RD400? The various swatches look either beige or red beige. It's impossible to tell what the color is like. I hope you love the ones you have. :-**

    2. I will email you a swatch once I upload it! It's sort of pinky beige, I'd say.

    3. Thank you, Emi! Trying to compile my wish list for more of those!

  2. So pretty, I bet it's not clown-like at all! I love the shiftiness, thank you for shaaaring. I would save you from the cold but it's actually chillier than usual 'round these parts, and I am enjoying it immensely. I shall drink some tea in your honor, though, and I shall do it while the tea is still piping hot.

    1. Um, I'm drinking a giant coffee now, but I think I will need to switch up to some fragrant toasty tea. Diapason has such a pretty color shift! I love the big contrast of the warm base & the cool shift. Very pow pow!

  3. OMG all that snow! INSANE! I really love Diapason on you, Belly! It's amazing how it doesn't pull red at all! I've got to swatch it soon!

    1. seems to pull super warm plummy brown on me. Although it does look not so great immediately next to my lash line. Then it does look red in a bad way. I need a black lashline to make sure I don't do that.
Also Impulsion looks so pink & beautiful on you! I can't possibly wear such a pink pink either! WAH!

  4. Oh man, that looks AWESOME on you. I had an Illusion D'Ombre and got rid of it, too. Thought I'd love the texture but nope. I'm just going to slink off and test some regular purply things and pretend this doesn't exist. ;O

Belleh, you don't even want to know the weather here. Hint: this map is pretty accurate. http://distilleryimage0.s3.amazonaws.com/4448a6f4789811e3b7d512b0a3aaf2c4_8.jpg

  5. hEH. Even teh weather is hopping on the sequel bandwagon... Polar Vortex 2 is no more enjoyable than the original. The only thing is that the wind is moving the snow around enough that it kind of disguises the "blech". snow is a completely different thing in the city as opposed to the country. In the country, it's very beautiful. In the city, it's an unpleasant reminder of what's probably coating our lungs.

I've also fallen under the spell of Diapason lately and I'm a cream-product hater as a rule. Apparently my love of pretty purples > my dislike of cream shadows. This one seems smoother, nicer than the other Illusion d'Ombres that I've seen. And it looks beautiful on you, not in the least cartoonish...

    1. Kate, I just saw your post with all the Dior & Chanel cream goodies! Diapason looks great on you. I suspect it might be more wearable than other super warm tones because of the cool blue, eh?
It's day 2 after the big snowfall and I swear, it gets grosser and grosser.

  6. I'm sure it will start snowing here soon, I like snow (from a distance) but can't stand ice, I always seem to be falling all over the place whilst everyone else walks normally, gah!
I really love that look you have created, looks very sultry! I got the pink one from the spring collection, I am sure the purple would be too dark for me so stop with such enticing reviews and pictures ;)

    1. Snow is always so pretty for a little while! So many people slipping & sliding all over the sidewalk! It's treacherous outside.
The new IdO's for spring are pretty. I wish I were a pink girl, but I think Impulsion would give me rabbit eyes.

  7. I haven't ventured outside from my apartment for two days, and I'm very happy to remain ensconsed under the covers with my tea and sparkly make-up. And maybe a muffin. You look gorgeous, btw!

  8. Looooove Diapason! It looks fantastic on you, love the combination! I so wish we had had snow instead of the Siberian cold we are having, again!!! I just can't stand it anymore. I'll take your snow (peanuts btw, not kidding!) and send you my cold! xx :)

    1. Helene! I complain here, but I guess in Canada it is way way way worse. :( I'm not meant for this life. I'm meant for cabana boys, frothy rum based drinks with little umbrellas. A large roomy caftan to hide my girth which comes from eating delicious concoctions all day long.

  9. I totally love this look on you!!! And I really feel so flattered when you said I inspired you for this look. I need to try Diapason with Caviar, that's a combo I hadn't tried yet. I'm also thinking about trying with Emerveille, will let you know about my experiments soon. Please stay warm, seems like it's freezing over there. Hugs!!!

    1. Hola Anne! I've been LOVING your Diapason looks. I think I will also try it as an accent on the lower lash line. I like the idea of the blue flash there! :) I'm all bundled up!

    2. Well, tried Convoitise instead of Emerveille, that will be tomorrow.

Oh, and I just remembered, look up for the recipe of something called "Caribou", that helps to keep warm :)

  11. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the look you did here!! So sultry and pulled together. I can't really comment on the snow, since I live in a tropical country, but I can imagine how I'd just shrink and sit by the fire 24/7. You and Kate and everyone else are really tempting me with Diapason...
ps: Agree with packing on the colours like a clown for the colours to show in pictures.... especially blushes!!!

    1. ya yah! The color right by my lash line looks ooky red in a ick way. That's why I've been wearing a thick black liner to keep it away. I think that may also work for you.

  14. i am burrowing in covers with my sparkles :D also, what fluffy fluff do you use? I'm not sure i have a good one for that. And yay your makeups look so pretty on you. i wish i did pretty makeups on my face!

    1. :)) Sparkle Burrowing is the bestest!!! You must slather more makeups on your face! It's the only way to get through this winter! Are you Chi or California now?
I used MAC217, but all interchangeable for any ol' blending brush.

  15. Warm purple e/s never works on me *cries but I love the pan colours. Too much work to get them to look right coz need to use blue/navy base and then layer said purple, plum and dark purples on top to look pretty.

It's so damn hot here and then it rains for hours and flash flood fml. I've never seen snow but I have seen ice cubes/hale stones destroy cars.

    1. Gah! Your Australian weather with the extreme hot is beyond my mind reckoning. That is some severe crazies you are having over there. I think we can trade half our temperatures and even it all out some?
:(( wah wah! This ido might be tough on some because of the super warm base. Even on me, I need to block it off my lashline with the black liner. I'm surprised how wearable warm it looks on the crease though.
