Visee Creamy Lipstick in RD401

I have not been so crazy in love with a lipstick formula and color in a long time.  I have lots of lipsticks that have become staples because of comfortable wear, which seems to be correlated with generally lower pigmentation.  It's been a very iffy journey finding a lipstick with impressive pigmentation that feels great on my lips, not just when I put it on, but also during the day as I reapply and also during concurrent days of wearing.

My kind friend in Japan included this Visee Creamy Lipstick in a parcel and it sat on top of my lipstick drawers for a while.  I was assuming this is some sheer red lipstick and I had quite a few sheer reds to get through.  I was so stupid.

Visee is part of the Japanese cosmetics company Kose.  They also make Addiction, Rimmel, Cosme Decorte, Paul & Joe among many of their offering.

This unassuming black metal tube holds a beautifully elegant formula!  The etched lace all around the tube is a nice feminine touch.  But does not matter.  What's important is the insides.
Hello, RD401.  I wish Japanese companies gave names to their colors.  It feels so sterile telling you how much I am so impressed with RD401.  "Hello, I like RD401.  RD401 is the WOAH."
RD401 is a bright and saturated pink red.  It's slightly cool and incredible in pigmentation.  Absolutely no scent and no taste!  And hello, it's drugstore (at least in Asia).

Here is a swipe, just one swipe of the bullet on my arm.  It's slightly lustrous, but not super shiny.  It reminds me a fair bit of my really luxurious Guerlain Rouge G's but slightly more emollient in feel and application, but also similarly light on the lips.  There is enough slip for easy glide and it deposits color like THIS:
Wear time is quite good.  First to go is the luster, then a very slow fade into a pinky stain.
It is really beautifully brightening on my skin.  The paler I get, of course the dramatic this shade appears on my face.

I also like how the coolness of this color makes my teeth look white.  Look how rich and kind it looks on my lip lines.  It looks rich without any feeling of heaviness.
You should see my crazy dead eyes in this picture. @___@
I kill you.
Sorry friends from makeupalley.  I've been going on and on about how much I am loving this formula and shade.  Here I am wearing RD401 in the context of my full face.  (Other stuff of note: Addiction Ready to Wear Palette in Sugar Rusk (here), Tom Ford liner in Espresso (here and everywherrreeeee), Rouge Bunny Rouge blush in Florita (here), Lancome Hypnose Drama waterproof mascara.)
I am DYING to get more of these, but looks like the color range is very muted and easy wearing.  Not that there is anything wrong with that (here).  I would totally die happy if Tom Ford's Black Orchid can be made in this formula.  I would dieeeeeeee.  Yes!  AM DRAMATIC MUCH.  Also, here in the states, it seems only available on line from eBay with a big markup.  Other online retailers like adambeauty does not seem to carry this lipstick range.  I think the next time I am in a big Japanese shopping area, I shall scour for these lipsticks.

Hello, Visee company?  Can you please make an awesome vamp color, a true neutral red and a bright pink please?  Oh!  It looks like for Spring, an insanely bright pink is coming out (here) as seen in Rouge Deluxe.  Dang it!  Another limited edition!  Bah humbug.

Ok, Sephora sales over.  Slight lull in sales and promotions.  What incredible new favorites have you uncovered that you want to shout about?

  1. Dang, girl!! Can you look *any* better??? Really? Yes, 'nuff about that superlative J-lipsticks, we all know how good they are. Well.. to tell you the truth, I've only tried one Japanese lipstick brand (Maquillage) and they are bar none the best, non-scented, moisturizing, flattering lipsticks I've ever tried (so sad I didn't buy more of it). I imagine there is no bad J-lipsticks, really, and if the DS version is anything like Visee, I can only imagine the high-end versions. Love that color on you!

    1. shiiiiiiiiiiit, lady! Hey, way to give me a giant head. I already have a big Korean head, this is going to make it impossible for me to fit through normal doorways.
Now I wonder if Rimmel lipsticks would be similar in any way and they have all sorts of bright & interesting colors.
I also updated the post about the no scent/taste thing because that is a seriously nice feature for most people. I can not believe such an incredible quality lipstick is so readily available in drugstores... JUST NOT HERE. D: whine whine whine.

    2. LOL! Then let's also squeeze/pop that giant head while we're at it :-D

I'd grumble grumble with you as well, I have yet to find a good DS lipstick that I like, not even Rimmel that is sold here in the U.S. Well my Kate for Rimmel stinks, but not as stinky as some of the other lippies I tried, and unfortunately not moisturizing at all -- they must have changed the formulation from country to countery. Bum-ER!

P.S. Remember your post awhile back about bright lipstick v.s. muted lipstick (Karakurenai v.s. Ichijiku)? I think you've found the best of both worlds in this Visee color here.

    3. When you pop my head where will I apply my lifetime supply of makeup???? *slathers makeup on the walls*

  2. What a beautiful color on you!
Love your FOTD pics here. This is a perfect holiday look for you.
I don't mind sheer lipsticks but I have problem with the fact even they often end up drying my lips as I reapply them throughout the day. So weird. Nowadays, I appreciate a good formula more than a pretty color. Seems this has both. :)

    1. A nice lipstick formula is a real find for me, especially since so many brands end up drying my lips! I really like this color, too so even a nicer perk of VIsee.

  3. Danm it I just got 3 more Guerlain lipsticks and now this is tempting me. I might get the tame beige pink/ peach/orange colours next time I do an order lol

    1. Let me know how you like them, Linda! Visee just doesn't have the color line up of Rouge G's unfortunately. I'd really love some more Visee, but the other colors are not as appealing to me. I think a lot of my Suqqu Creamy Glows fit the bill on the more tame colors.

    2. But Visee is more affordable and not dc like Suqqu creamy glow. I just moved all my lipsticks and non powder mu into my fridge (coz melting hot here) and that draw is full >.< *imagines dream home with extra fridge just for mu lol Btw I keep coming back to this post to admire your brow shape and super smooth skin.

    3. Visee is so affordable! Melting Suqqus! The HORROR! :O
Instead of a makeup fridge, I'd like a kimchee fridge.

      Delete
    4. Hmm what is kimchee like? How do I spot real/good kimchee?

      Delete
    5. Hmm... good kimchee versus bad kimchee. I think good kimchee is made by a little old grandmother in the countryside by hand. I myself don't know how to make it so I buy it at the Korean supermarket. All a matter of preference on which vegetable you like picked (cabbage being the most popular) and the level of seasoning/spiciness. I swear though, smells like HELL! Hence the need for a separate fridge.

    2. I think I purposely blocked out Ichibankao when I wrote this post. I saw it on there for around the same as eBay prices and it included shipping (unlike the eBay seller had separate shipping).

  5. OMG, this is gorgeous and it's making me feel bad of the limited availability of interesting cosmetics here. I guess I'll have to start doing my TF$ list ;)
This shade looks amazing on you and I actually love the contrast.

    1. the TF$ feel so creamy and the color range is so beautiful! I am bummed they don't work on my lips. Bah!
Thank you Anne! I really love this color so much!

Isn't it such a bright happy color? This stuff is all available via extortionary channels (eBay, Ichibankao) but best to ignore unless easily accessible. Right?

Do you get the Japanese ds brands in the Philippines easily?

  8. nice! read your review and ran to the nearest visee carrying drugstore...bought the lipstick, wore it immediately and is exactly everything you have said it is. The pink 802 was actually kind of strong and brightish cool pink on me (pale olive skin) and the pk 801 was in person a soft yellow pink with some white, which on my mauve lips is death cancelling. This 3 shades I swatched were all well pigmented and glossy.
thank youuu! i would not have tried them without you, mostly because we had so much of Rola over here this year.
By the way the OR200 is a kind of rare almost pastel orange with no brown at all, would be fantastic on someone of a soft coloring( a muted medium neutral or yellowish skin) for an insta kawaii doll face look.alas, totally not my type, but would be awesome on some.I predict this shade to be popular here come spring.

    1. I'm so glad you had the same experience with the lipstick! Isn't it such a great formula.

Also, let me make a frownie face here ---> :(( and feeling terribly jealous that you can run out to a drugstore to try these out in person.

      What's a Rola?

      Delete
    2. hehehe ;)...making you jealous is in revenge for all the lemmings your blog has created on my mind!

I'm temporarily living in japan due to husband's family reasons...so its all recent and cant read anything or write characters...like a child really.Thank you for your awesome blog. I hope if anything I could go double check things if you ever wonder about a particular item.

Rola is the model-spoke person for Visee, and she is a "tarento", showing up in tv numerous times and has a giggly and informal speech manner all of her own ( uhm hard to explain) the problem is...Rola was all over the place this year, her face popping up everywhere, even on candy packaging...sales advertisements, hair dye, beauty clinics, fashion magazines, drinks, train stations, hot springs pamphlets, dreams...ad infinitum...

    3. Ahahahah! Ah, Rola is a tarento! :) It was a year of Rola, I see.

I thought Japan is also tough place to be when you don't understand any of the language. People are so kind and helpful though! I hope you still get a chance to enjoy it (if only for the AWESOMESAUCE drugstore makeup). Will you be there for the long term?

Thank you so much for your sweet comment and the making of the drools for me on more Visees.

  13. Hmm. I wonder what RD400 looks like irl. I've been trying to use up a Dior Serum Rouge and a CdP extra silky lipstick (pre-reformulation) and often combine the two to get a perfectly serviceable reddened beige. I like the effect, but it would be much nicer if I didn't have to mix each time!

The lipstick look stupendous on you, belly!! You should definitely get moar--what's your neutral, MLBB lipstick stash looking like these days? >:-)

    1. Ya know! RD400 looks like a beautiful rosy beige! And no more mixing!!! win win win!

MLBB wise, I still wear Chante Amour & Suqqu Tsubomidama, but lately, I'm liking reds and the bright pinks. Otherwise, my sad sallow face looks really bleehhhh.
