#LoveItorTossIt

Joyce from Bronzer Bunny challenged me and Lipstick Boulevards to take part in her challenge: Love It or Toss It.  The challenge cooked up by Joyce and also Gummy from Gummy Vision is to pick a handful of items that I don't love and use it for a few days and then deliberate on it.  If it passes the test, keep it, if not toss it.  See Joyce & Gummy's Love It or Toss it posts here and here.  See Lipstick Boulevards new post here and Bronzer Bunny's new post here!

Over time, I've become pretty proficient about purging things on a regular basis, but for some reason, specific things seem impervious to the purge process despite my ambivalence over those items.  This is what I recently posted in a Twitter post about my picks for this challenge.
On the chopping block are Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, Dolce & Gabbana blush in Sole and Shu Uemura Stage Performer.

Secret Camouflage is a well-loved spot concealer that comes in a two pan format.  The fabulousness of this item is that you can customize your color match as long as you choose the generally correct shade.  I chose SC-4 which is really dark for my skin, but using a copious amount of the lighter tone I get a decent shade depth to cover my blips.  It's described as for "medium to golden skin tone" on the Laura Mercier website, but on my yellow skin it still looks peachy.  Color issues aside, I was hoping that this would be a good concealer for covering my zits and various discoloration, but it just doesn't perform.  You see the good amount of pan I have so you know I gave it the good ol' college try.  I like how the overall dry texture initially makes it stick to my skin, but even when set with powder, the oils in my skin just break it down and make it slide off my face.
Pan!  Wow mythical pan.  Only pan I have. :(
Dolce & Gabbana blush in Sole was previously posted on here.  I don't love this formula, but I love this color.  In this particular instance, it's a matter of how much I love the color in spite of the formula.  My issue is that the pan feels dry and a bit dusty.  I think if I found a color replacement that can replicate the shade with a superior formula I would replace it.  Having tried it out again, and used carefully with a fan brush, it really is a very pretty blush color.  I think even though the color is super scary assertive in the pan, with the right tools a very flattering look can be achieved.

Shu Uemura Stage Performer had a lot of hype when it was released a few years back as a magical skin perfecting product.  Of course I ran out and bought one and I recall really liking it a while back.  The formula is very rich on my skin and I stopped using it when the weather turned warm and humid and then stopped using it altogether.  This is a great product!  I'm looking forward to the cooler and drier weather to start using this again.  What is this?  I guess you can use it for several purposes.  For me, I like it as a primer (layered over my sunscreen and regular moisturizer) and before foundation.  Or as a foundation replacement paired with a good concealer.  It softens and blurs the texture on my skin to give a slightly glowing and flawless look.  Actually, if you look very closely at my skin, all the pores and texture are there, but from a distance my skin looks much improved.  I think the mechanism is to deflect and reflect light in a more advantageous fashion so much that I can get away with a very small amount of foundation.

You may want to avert your eyes if you can not stand a close up picture of pores!

Anyway, PORES.  Stage Performer doesn't seem to do anything close up as all pores are clearly visible, but the overall effect, when at a more civilized distance from my face is pretty nifty.
Trying out all the things from today's post, plus some brow pencil (Shu Uermura hard 9 pencil in Seal Brown) , Dolce & Gabbana Only Monica lipstick, plus Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle foundation very sparingly to show off Stage Performer hard at work.

Final Verdict:
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage: TOSS IT
Dolce & Gabbana Sole: LOVE IT (but look out, it's still on my purge list)
Shu Uemura Stage Performer: LOVE IT

1:3, that's a pretty paltry Toss It to Love It ratio.  I must try harder next time.  What's on your chopping block?

  1. I love this idea! I think often times my guilt about money spent keeps me from purging *side eyes at Nars blush stash*
I really must put together a blog sale.
Glad you're keeping Sole and the Shu- they look lovely on you!

  2. You look so young in that photo! Like early 20's. I can't believe a few posts ago that you told us that you turned 40. Now I need to layer on some more spf and purge my stash a bit.

    1. I chucked SC in the garbage! I liked to glance at it for pan-viewing purposes since it's so rare for me, but I'm now feeling very liberated! Down with incompatible products!

    1. lol. Shu still has the Stage Performer on the US website, even though I think I bought this tube in Asia a long time ago. I'm sure SC-3 is a better match for you than 4. 4 is really really dark.

  5. I really like Laura Mercier's colour cosmetics, but I had bad luck with her foundation. Sounds like I should avoid the concealer too... And your skin looks absolutely perfect in the "human distance" photo.

    1. For the pore-view, the other person would need to be on very intimate terms with me, or on the subway. Maybe avoid the concealer. I know many people love it, though.

  6. I want to TOSS my secret camo as well- someone asked my opinion last week - I think she did not believe me when I told her I did not like since it has always received such hype. Want stage performer........

  7. I have that dilemma of "Love the color, hate the texture" thing with lipstick, but rarely with blush. I can see it now why you have such a hard time with Sola, it looks amazing on you! None of the Addiction cheek stuff is comparable to this -- colorwise? Stage performer looks great, too. Yeah, you can afford to chuck LM, there are lots of other concealer in the sea.

  8. Yay for loveitortossit!!! Thank you for the shout out!! I didn't care for the LM secret camo either...found it emphasized my dry areas and would break up around my oilies...plus it's a lot of work lolol!! Still on the hunt for a great concealer. I think it's more skincare for me that's on the chopping block!!
